Membership Information

There are Three Types of Membership:

  • Regular Membership Regular membership is open to all persons 18 years of age or older. A regular member shall be entitled to all privileges of the Club including the right to vote and hold office. While membership is to be unrestricted as to residence, the Club’s primary purpose is to be representative of the breeders and exhibitors in its immediate area.

  • Junior Membership Junior Membership shall be open to persons between the ages of 9 and 17 years of age. Junior members shall be entitled to all privileges of the Club except those of voting and holding office or a board position. Junior members may automatically convert to regular membership upon reaching their 18th birthday.

  • Associate Membership Associate Membership shall be offered to persons who live outside of the club’s area or to persons who reside in the club’s area but who are not active. Associate members are entitled to all privileges of the club except voting or office holding. Associate members are not computed in determining a quorum.

Club Dues

  • Yearly dues are $25 for regular and $20 associate members, there are no yearly dues for junior members .

Membership Process:

Each new member applicant will provide a completed APPLICATION, and will have club sponsors.  If you do not have a sponsor, the club will assign sponsors for you.  Sponsors will act as club “mentors” for applicants.  At the first business meeting, after the application and sponsors signatures are received, a reading will be made to introduce the applicant to the membership.  Applicant MUST be present.   At the next business meeting, a second reading will take place as a refresher, and a vote will be taken.  Applicant MUST be present.  Applicant will be approved for membership if approved by 2/3 vote of the quorum present when the vote is taken.

The Role of Sponsor:

An applicant does not need to have sponsors in advance before applying for membership in the Piedmont Kennel Club.  It’s helpful, but not mandatory. When that isn’t possible, the ideal scenario is for the applicant to attend several meetings, get to know some of the  members, and feel  comfortable  enough with at least two to ask them to be  sponsors  for membership.

A sponsor’s role is to meet with or converse with applicants and determine their areas of interest, their areas of expertise, which then in turn helps you find your niche in the club’s activities, and allows the sponsor to direct you to members who can best help you with your own interests and training. It is also the sponsor’s role to be a resource for the applicant to answer questions about a particular activity, about the club’s policies on any particular item, about how anything works within the club, to simply be a sounding board for the applicant until that is no longer seriously needed. Become a friend in the club!

Sponsors, and indeed the entire membership, serve as guides and mentors for new members and are there to help and provide support, guidance, information or advice whenever needed.
